Free, but with a catch Read before you dive in

TESDA National Certificate (NC I/II): The online course is free, BUT the NC assessment (the part employers actually recognize) is paid and in-person at an accredited center — a few hundred up to ~₱2,000 depending on the qualification. Still worth it, pero magbadyet.

Google Career Certificates (Coursera): Normally ~$49/month, BUT free if you get a DICT GCC Scholarship (priority for the unemployed; there's a waitlist; those already in tech are excluded) — or use Coursera Financial Aid: apply per course, a ~150-word essay, wait up to 15 days, and it can be 100% free.

TESDA scholarships (TWSP/STEP): Free in-person training with a daily allowance (e.g. Caregiving NC II with ₱160/day) and a free toolkit — but slots are limited per batch and per province. Ask your TESDA provincial office.

AWS/Azure cloud certs: The training is free (AWS Skill Builder, Microsoft Learn), but the exam is paid (~$100). Watch for free exam voucher campaigns — they run these regularly.

⚠️ A rule of thumb for paid courses VA-course reviewers say it themselves: "Stay away from any course with 'guaranteed job placement.'" If you have ₱15,000 — it's better spent on a decent headset, a second monitor, or an internet backup. The only paid item with a reasonable ROI: a 120-hour TEFL cert (~₱1,000–5,000) IF you're going into online English tutoring.

Which skills are in-demand in 2026?

1. AI-tool proficiency — the biggest differentiator. A VA who's good with ChatGPT/Claude and automation (Zapier/Make) = premium rates.
2. Bookkeeping — $900–1,800/mo, the cert is free (QuickBooks).
3. Medical VA — growing fast; nursing/allied health grads have an edge but it's not required; the agencies train you (you don't need to buy a "medical VA course").
4. E-commerce ops (Shopify/Amazon/TikTok Shop) — $900–2,000/mo.
5. Executive Assistant — $1,200–2,500/mo ceiling.
6. Digital marketing — covered by free HubSpot/Meta/Google certs.
7. Appointment setting / cold calling — $600–1,500/mo, no cert needed, magaling ka lang dapat mag-English.
Local: caregiving/healthcare (TESDA scholarship with an allowance), hospitality, skilled trades, and BPO as a springboard.
